Delhi is all set to witness the first of it’s kind Indian Handicrafts fair complete with live demonstration and sale of exclusive handicrafts handpicked from around the country. Organized by National Centre for Design and Product Development in cooperation with DLF Promenade and supported by Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), the 10 days long event will commence on 16th of January 2015 and will conclude on the 25th of January 2015. The inaugural ceremony on 16th January will witness the presence of industry stalwarts like Navraj Goyal, IRS (Additional Development Commissioner, Handicrafts), Pradeep Mukherjee (Shilipguru & Award winner), R. K. Srivastava (Executive Director – National Centre for Design and Product Development, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India) and Dinaz Madhukar, Senior Vice President and Mall Head of DLF Promenade & DLF Emporio.
Shoppers and art enthusiasts of Delhi will experience 10 power packed days with 16 karigars selected from across the length and breadth of the country showcasing their brilliant and unique skills. Live demonstrations and folk dance will be the highlight of the event and for those wanting to strike a real deal, the fair will be an opportunity to take home some rare Indian treasures.
From textiles with intricate designs to hand crafted décor and accessories, patrons will be able to explore the making and also interact with the artists, making concrete contribution to keep the craft alive. Textiles ranging from patch work and embroidery from Rajasthan to Kalamkari Sarees, Dupattas and dress materials from Andhra Pradesh; Chanderi Sarees from Madhya Pradesh to Maheshwari Saree and suits from Madhya Pradesh and Sujani embroidery shawls from Kashmir will also be a part of the fair.
Amongst others there will also be stalls for stationery items made out of cloth and paper from New Delhi, bead jewellery from Uttar Pradesh, carpet and Durry from Uttar Pradesh, paper crafts from Faridabad, Kites from Kite Maker Umar Daraz from Delhi.
Those in love with the art of pottery can find blue art pottery and glazed pottery from Rajasthan and blue Pottery from New Delhi.
Silver Filigiri jewellery from Orissa and Pattachitra paintings will also be displayed as well as sold.
