About Gopal Namjoshi :
Muralist, artist, and designer, has exhibited his work in over ten one-man shows at galleries within the country while his works have been displayed in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Jaipur.
In the recent years, his works have also been shown in several curated Group Shows such as Reflections Within curated by Dr. Alka Raghuvanshi in Dubai and Delhi, India in March 2007, Winter Group show by Nav Siddhatha Art Group at Lalit Kala Akademi. New Delhi, 2007 Digressing Domains curated by Sushma Bahl organized by Nitanjali Art Gallery, Delhi, Nov. 2006; Vasant; Curated by Leena Namjoshi, New Delhi, March 2006, Art For Vision curated by Sushma Bahl at Gallerie Nvya, October 2004; Karma Art Gallery, 2002; Group show at Rajputana Palace, Shereton, Jaipur 1994, Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur, 1993, Lalit Kala Akademi curated shows in Jaipur.
His works are in important private and public collections in India and abroad, including the Nehru Centre Mumbai, Federation of Indian Export Organisations, New Delhi, SMC Pneumatics Noida, H.H. Dalai Lama, Rajasthan Chamber of Commerce, Jaipur, RTDC, Head South Asian Studies, Cornell University, USA, Berry John's Studio, Noida, Former Tourism Minister Renuka Choudhury, Rajasthan Lalit Kala Akademi, etc.
He was awarded Gold Medal for achieving 1st position in five Year diploma in Fine Arts from, School of Arts, Jaipur. He has designed and installed over sixty murals in a range of media and techniques in India and abroad.
From 1995 till 2000 after voluntarily retiring from UNICEF he has dedicated his time and energies to his new found passion in murals. He has designed, fabricated and installed murals for many private and corporate centers, worldwide beginning from his home town from Jaipur thereon with word of mouth appreciation he started getting prestigious offers from metropolitans too. In 1994 he designed and fabricated a foldable 20 x 20 meters stall of sandstones for Gennex Overseaswhich was then shipped and displayed at Vienna, Italy 2000. In 1989, he was appointed as Display Designer and Photographer for Rajasthan pavilion, Apna Utsav, Mumbai, India, by West Zone Cultural Centre.
During his tenure as Exhibition Designer, Jawahar Kala Kendra, he researched and supervised the making of Shilp gram ( Craft village) which is today the most visited place for Rajasthani crafts in Rajasthan. There he also organized various workshops like traditional Jewellery making, iron sculptures, raku and terracotta, paper sculptures and blue pottery, painting and sculpture camps. These camps were actively participated by many well known artists from India. A jewellery exhibition in collaboration with British Council was also conceived as fusion of modern 21st century jewelery and much practiced traditional jewellery from Rajasthan, this was even displayed quite innovatively for which he won many accolades.
His thorough knowledge in fundamentals of arts has always made him popular amongst his students at IIC, Faculty of fine arts, Jaipur-1996-7, University of Rajasthan-1992-1994 and RajasthanSchool of Arts 1986-87.
Recently he has created an installation in steel, a group of five metal scrolls ranging in height from about 6 feet to 10 feet and covering the area of 12x15 ft. They were inspired by Air one of the vital elements of the Five Primal Elements and are displayed permanently at the SMC Pneumatics, Noida, India.
He has been painting on Yantra and Tantra with primary colours and basic forms since his first brush with paintings over the last fifteen years and has traveled extensively in Rajasthan, researched and studied tribal and rural arts and crafts of Rajasthan.
Wall Alive, a series inspired by the minimalist approach with colours and livingness with art was exhibited in The Ashoka, Delhi, 2005. These works were based on the Five Vital Elements and their correlation with each other.
He has also illustrated few books for Gyan Peeth publications, Diamond Publications and St. Stephens College annual meet from 1995- 2002.
Born in 1961 in Jaipur, Gopal Namjoshi studied art for five years at the RajasthanSchool of Arts, Jaipur. He moved to Delhi after a long experimentation in his formative years in Jaipur as designer, lecturer, consultant and advertising professional. At present, he lives in New Delhi and works from his studio at MG Road, New Delhi.
